Why Network Security?
Today, Internet security is essential for any office connected to the Internet. Firewalls, network address translation, Web access and content control, scan detection, and user authentication are just some of the complex technologies the modern office must contend with to conduct successful Internet business. If you've ever tried to introduce a network security system into your enterprise, you know how tricky it can be to install it properly, and then manage it and keep it up-to-date against the constant barrage of security challenges. With hackers continually inventing new forms of attack, you can lose sleep even after you think you've done everything possible to secure your network. Business communication is another issue that requires network security. Currently, the most cost-effective way to secure your Internet communications is through VPN (virtual private network) tunnel technology. VPNs allow private communications over the Internet between your enterprise and your remote offices, mobile users, and telecommuters. Setting up and managing VPN tunnels is not a simple task, however, and the difficulty can be magnified by lack of user expertise. |

| We approach network security from a "defense in depth" perspective. We are committed to the deve lopment of flexible, scalable security products that ensure network protection in these critical areas: |
|
|
 |
Network perimeter protection: |
|
firewall - a security system to protect a networked server or computer from intentional or accidental damage or unauthorized access; implemented by either hardware (a dedicated gateway machine) or software (defensive coding). A good firewall combines stateful packet filters and sophisticated security proxies to monitor and secure your Internet traffic giving you optimal security. |
 |
Secure, private VPN communication: |
|
VPNs ensure that your business communications over the Internet are secure. The VPN System keeps your communications private using 168 bit strong encryption and IPSec tunnel-to-tunnel routing reduces the complexity of managing multiple VPN tunnels. |
 |
Server-based protection: |
|
Special locks for various O.S which can seal the kernel for any configuration / Manage change while the server is active . Kernel locks protects against attacks on your vulnerable Web servers, and your internal server systems, applications and content. KernelLock "locks down" servers, protecting them against administrative changes, except when carefully authenticated users are allowed access. |
 |
PKI /CA (Public Key Infrastructure / Certification Authority): |
|
None is unaware of today's Internet revolution and challenges. Internet has led to various protocols and processes, which are being adopted in various organizations as Intranets and Extranets. These networks have led to strong on-line communications and transactions. Company's critical processes like supply chain management, inventory management, concurrent engineering/manufacturing, business to business and business to customer transactions are happening on these infrastructures. |
|
All the above strongly support that Internet or networks based on Internet technologies are ideal for faster, efficient and automated processes. The above laid processes have to be the substantiated in a solid manner by security process, which have to address issues related to the following:
| (i) Authentication: Who you are? |
| (ii) Privacy: Keep secrets things secrets |
| (iii) Authorization: Have allowed access to the shared resources |
| (iv) Data Integrity: Nothing is changed in the critical information |
(v) Non-Reprediation: Have evidence in the event of dispute
To support the above concerns, we need to depend on public key infrastructure. Public key infrastructure (PKI) is an architecture, organization, technique, practice and procedure that collectively support the implementation and operation of a certificate-based public key cryptographic system. PKI is an online infrastructure using encryption, digital signatures and digital certificates to secure applications, communications, and transactions. PKI is not just hardware and software, but it includes policy practices, application enablement and partners, secure and reliable operations, practical and risk management etc. The organization, which implements these infrastructures and enable, these security processes for their customers are called the Certification Authorities. Velocis Systems (P) Ltd., has a tie-up with Safe Scrypt (VeriSign in India) to offer such solutions for various applications.
Training :
Training on Security is integral to a Bussiness Model .We at SiliconUniv, have been blending concepts in information technology with strong practical exposures. SiliconUniv has earlier done this very successfully in the areas of LAN, WAN, Telecom and systems with partners like Motorola, Cisco, Avaya, PAD & Sun. SiliconUniv involves their system integration experts to share their experiences of customer networks and infrastructure with the audience.
We at Velocis Systems have already taken a lead in security solutions with a very focused in house team and relationships with key players in the internet security like Watchguard, Cisco and VeriSign.
SiliconUniv has been able to develop a 5-day curriculum on Internet security,
Course Objective: The Fire walling course provides in depth knowledge of network security concepts, focusing on securing your network's perimeter. The course focuses on the design and implementation of a corporate security policy using the Fire Wall System. The course is intended as an introduction to products for those that are installing and administering the Fire Wall System. Creating Virtual Private Networks to help reducing cost of operations yet ensuring the security norms of the organizations.
The course Specification covers the following :
| (i). Vulnerabilities in a network |
| (ii) Packet filtering |
| (iii) Content filtering |
| (iv) VPN's and Encryption Technologies. |
| (v) Web and Mail Certificates |
| (vi) PKI and CA. |
Most of the above Concepts are substantiated using various equipments practically with specific case studies.
